Now that the past (the Lara era) is over, it's time to look to the future. I can honestly say that having grown up in Jamaica and played cricket at the high school level at the same time as Marlon Samuels and Chris Gayle, (Ricardo Powell lived a mere 1.5 miles away), that I have had the chance to evaluate a fair amount of the West Indian talent (at least that coming from Jamaica.
If the rest of the WINDIES holds true to that example then I'm afraid cricket's future is dim. We simply do not have the dedication to the game now that was present 10 years ago, when I was in high school, and even that was paltry in comparison to the interest in the game 10 years before that. We are on a troubling syncline - many describe it as spiralling out of control, but that's too drastic...we have gone the way of the schizophrenic, slowly going down the cricket-playing society's levels with occasional bursts of grandiosity.
Let us see what new leadership will bring...maybe something, but I doubt it will be greatly improved over the current situation - the problems are deeper than the captain and even the current team and board. I hope we can overcome the malaise.
