The spin bowling dilemma - Cricket

Postby farhan » Tue Jul 08, 2008 6:16 am

I thought it was about time we had a thread to discuss this major problem that has occured after the

retirement of the Spin King, Shane Warne.

Just recently, Stuart MacGill retired, an extremely talented spin bowler who was the 4th fastest of all time in reaching the 200 wickets landmark in Cricket. Unfortunately for him, he was always under the shadow of Warne. Hell, when he announced his retirement, everyone was busy reading Warney's comments after his IPL victory . Stuey MacGill thought his time was up and rightfully so, because, he was bowling crap.

Now we're into a situation, where we ask ourselves - do we have a good young spinner who can do the job for the Aussies in the sub-continent and, on Day 5 of test matches any where around the world? Or should we go with an experienced spinner and relatively aged spinner like Bryce McGain in the sub-continent; and go out and out with 4 fast bowlers any where else around the world? And Warney is gone, sorry.

Beau Casson is the one who is expected to deliver under pressure, but I have a lot of doubts. An average near 40 in first class cricket won't impress many but hopefully he'll be able to prove himself at the International level. To me, he might turn out to be a better batsman than a bowler . Other good options are the South Australian boys; Cullen Bailey and Dan Cullen. But the problem is that both aren't ready yet and are dropped from their current state side itself :S

So what are your views guys? Australain Cricket has finally got a big problem to deal with.

true...casson's 1st class record is not at all impressive....there r no other gud options too in spin

dept..oz can try young spinners in odi's n c how they perform...but in tests its better if they go with 4

fast bolwers n use clarke, symonds n katich(if he plays) as spinning options

Um, if anyone still reads this topic,
I'd like to say that now we have three spinners fighting for a place in the national side. these are their names: Nathan Hauritz, Xavier Doherty and... oh I can't think of the name.

Doherty... YEAH!!!
p.s I'm from TAS

I 'keep and also bowl right-arm legspin. Not very strong in batting(Favorite shot: Cut. Most used shot: Back Defense)
